About Mexico city

Mexico City has been and continues to be Mexico’s very heart as well as the historical and cultural capital of the Americas. Since its foundation by the Aztecs in 1325 its has been a meeting place for diverse cultures.
Mexico City is one of the largest and most dynamic cities on the planet; a conglomeration of legendary as well as modern cultural-origin myths; and it seduces and fascinates all who experience and enjoy it.
The city conserves both pre-Hispanic constructions, witnesses to the richness of the cultures that originally emerged in the Valley of Mexico, as well the architecture of Mexico’s enigmatic colonial period. Hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, museums, galleries and entertainment facilities also abound

LOCATION

Mexico City is privileged since it offers what very few other cities can: it’s in the middle of everything that interests you, whether it’s culture, nature, tourism, education, entertainment, healthcare and religious centers, or night life.
Located in the nation’s center (99º 09' W longitude, 19º 24'' N latitude, GMT -6), the city is surrounded by mountains that rise from the remains of ancient lakebeds and has an average elevation of 2300 m above sea level.
Mexico State borders to the north, east and west; the state of Morelos borders to the south. By being located in the very geographic and historic center of Mexico, its capital is connected by land to every national  destination.

GEOGRAPHY

Situated in what was once one of pre-Hispanic Mexico’s principal lake districts, the city grew within the valley formed by the surrounding mountains, among which are distinguished the southwestern range with its volcanoes, Popocatépetl and Iztlaccíhuatl.
Years later, from colonial days until the beginning of the twentieth century, the city was criss-crossed with navigable canals, principally headed to its southern reaches. Some of them still exist but are paved over and now serve as important thoroughfares, such as the Viaducto Río de la Piedad, the Calzada de  la Viga and the Río Consulado and Río Churubusco Highways.

CLIMATE

The climate is temperate in winter, hot and dry in April and May.
The rainy season begins in May and ends around October, consisting generally of sunny mornings followed by cloudy, rainy afternoons.
Mornings and nights can be cold, especially in winter, with an average
temperature of 15 degrees °C (59 degrees °F).
LANGUAGE Spanish is the official language of Mexico and it is the principal language for almost all the city’s inhabitants.
